Macedonia 2012 - In the capital, Skopje
This morning at 06.uur up and had breakfast. At 07.15 pm the bus that drove us to Skopje would bring. First at other hotels even people picked up at 08.00 from Ohrid direction thermotronic skopje left. About 200 km. northwards.
At 11.00 we were close to Skopje. We went off the highway and drove to the National Park Matka. The Canyon of Macedonia. We got there some time to walk around. At noon we drove over in Skopje. With the first sight a big cross on top of a mountain. This is the Millennium Cross on the mountain thermotronic Vodno, thermotronic which the government offered to all Christians in the year 2000. The cross overlooks the entire city. It is one of the largest crucifix in the world and also from far away already clearly visible.
Arriving in the center we got off at the old train station. In 1963 there was a great earthquake in Skopje. A large part of the old city is thereby destroyed. Part of the train remained. Now remember this is still the earthquake of 1963. The clock at the station is still quiet at the time that the earthquake occurred. 5.17 o'clock in the morning.
Walked through the street to the Memorial House of Mother Teresa. She was born in Skopje, and since a number thermotronic of years, on the site of the ancient Catholic Church, where she was ever baptized, this memorial house built. On the first floor is a summary of her life to see. On the second floor is a chapel, entirely made of glass. We got a tour of this house. Was very nice to see.

Skopje is also called the city of the bridges mentioned. There are many bridges that the new part of the city with the old link. We walked from the square on the Stone Bridge into the old part of town.
There we went to the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, The Museum of the Macedonian Struggle. In this museum we got an impression of all the wars that have taken place over the centuries. Before Macedonia finally a free republic. Unfortunately we could not see the whole museum, but it gave an idea of how many wars and struggles Macedonia has endured.
Then we could see ourselves Skopje. thermotronic I first went to the Old Bazaar. A series of many small streets and shops. Seated on a terrace and a delicious Turkish coffee.
At 17.15 gone. It was rush hour, so it took a while before we were off again Skopje. The toll road again and into the mountains. By now it was dark. We only saw in the distance the lights of the increasingly small villages. thermotronic
It was a long day, but a nice one. A beautiful ride through the mountains and still a lot to see in Skopje. The first big city I've seen in Macedonia. Was certainly the long journey Worth!
